FIBA recently banned two Sikh athletes from participating in the International Basketball Competition for the Asia Cup while wearing their turban. Sikhs have been allowed. ......

The Sikh Faith and its way of living do not allow such behavior anywhere let alone in a place of worship. Recent media reports have emerged on video-recorded evidence of a member of the National Commission for Minorities, Mr. Harvendra Hanspal, pressuring Ms. Nirpreet Kaur (whose father had been brutally murdered in Nov. 1984 pogroms) to not testify against Mr. Sajjan Kumar, one of the prime accused in the Delhi pogroms as well as a former Member of Parliament and current member of Congress Party. In response, WSC-AR has appealed to the Indian Prime Minster to dismiss Mr. Hanspal.

On Jan. 18, four representatives of the World Sikh Organization of Canada were refused entry into the Quebec National Assembly because they were wearing the kirpan -- a religious requirement of the Sikh Faith for those formally initiated. The Sikhs had gone there to testify before the Committee on Institutions in favor of religious accommodation for veiled Muslim women in Quebec..
